mjoconr
Hi AllDoes anyone have any experience with the BIOHome product range ? (http://www.tynevalleyaquatics.co.uk/biohome-media/4573328269) It seems to be pushed by one shop in the UK, but there are claimis its been used in the trade for a long time. It's expensive, I'll need around 10Kg and cost is around $300 with $50 shipping. But if its reduces my need for water changes, resulting in a more stable tank it might be worth it.Comments ? intangcity
im guessing micropure and k1 would give same results.could just be the way its marketed to make it look so good.i read it over a few times and in my opinion its really not worth it at that price.you can get 1 litre of micropure for $20 approx.if you had 4-6 litres of k1 a few litres of micropure ud be saving a bucket load.plus micropure you can hang or lay in your tank or sump.as for reducing need for water changes id prob think twice about that. mjoconr
As best I can see those two filter materials are hosts for Aerobic bacteria. BioHome is for both Aerobic and Anaerobic bacteria.Anaerobic bacteria will use the NO3 as a result lowering it. (At least that's how I read the material and the science)The questions is does it actual eventaully host the bacteria needed for this process. If you lower the total NO3 that reduces the need for water changes.Cheers
Rod54
Nothing replaces water changes....lots of toxins in old aquarium water....not just the few aquarists measure
mjoconr
Sure but the number of water changes we do in the hobby is because of NO3, I'm also looking at an Algi Scubber as this might be a better solution and close to nothing.I've talked with people who have dropped to parts per Billion of NO3 using a Algi Scubber. But they still do water changes because as you say there are other toxins which need to be removed.Cheers
