Cloudy water

Recommended Posts

i have just had an 6ft tank set up.

I used neutral ph sand drift wood and stones.

Now i have 2 1500 L/PH 4stage canister filters running with media and activated carbon and i have polyester filter material in every single stage. I have a uv sterilizer running and an air pump.

I thing thats everything sould be right equipment wise to have crystal clear water but my water is a bit cloudy.[emoji20]

Any advise ?

It sounds to me that your filtration (and tank) may not have finished cycling yet. Aquariums can take 2 - 5 or 6 weeks to finally stabilize with the cycle.

Excess ammonia can encourage bacterial blooms which is your milky water. Once the cycle has finished you should find your water to be clear.

Check your cycle readings (ammonia and nitrite) and if you still have a cycle happening then just keep on top of the water changes until things level out.

Also I would recommend turning off any UV while your tank is setting up. UV is not needed on most aquariums...never really saw the reason retail are pushing these things.

are you using a bio starter like Stability or Bio-Start to kick the filter bacteria off

I agree that you should turn off the UV it's good if you have algae or fish with weak

immune systems but other than that a healthy tank doesn't need it

I also think dump the carbon,it's fine for removing meds, tannin , impurities but will

leach back when it hits total absorbing capacity

consider some thing like Macropore or Purigen instead of carbon
