luis
It's hard to get a good picture but one of my fish (who is isolated in a hospital tank after getting beat up, see other thread) is very red at the base of her fins.It is a bright red blood colour. What could cause this?
Buccal
Sometimes in that particular area small tumorous like growths can occur which usually doesn't effect the fish to much. But I don't think it's tumor related. It's more looking like a gram-negative bacterial infection, which is usually related to depleted water quality,,,,, but these infections can occur also in relatively well maintained clean environments also.Usually when a fish is picked on,,, the stress and injury that occurs will weaken the immune system and become more prone to disease.Considering you have said its been beaten up,,, then it's likely a minor infection,, it should heal up with no intervention but it may remain red in these areas.Antibiotics (metro) or use of salt can help things along.Out of the thousands of fish I keep,,, I've seen this a few times before. As long as you have him separated till his fins heal, should be fine. But re-introducing it back is sometimes a tall order, and end up smashed again.
