Wack em all together and accept the losses when they happen.

You'll get a natural balance out with what works.

One week you could add a heap of mbuna that gets gobbled up, yet add the same lot again a fortnight later and they all survive and take shelter in haunts.

Every situation is a different one, other peoples advice may not have much bearing on your situation.

Tanks size, rock rock, feeding regimes and few other things impact on these situations to.

But a bit of advice I can give on mixing, as I've done it to the max in my displays,,,, is start out with smaller size predatory types and larger size omni/herbi types.

Growing up together in each others presence always gains tolerance.

Keeping fish well fed without over feeding always helps. :)

hmm i agree with that I been lucky i guess so far on some forums they pretty much preach seperation tanks mbuna in one haps in another one minute because the haps would eat the mbuna and next cause mbuna are aggressive.

My display tank is stocked with both and they all get along well and even at feeding there is no aggression towards eachother. I guess the fact I have put them all in together at very similar size means there are no dominant fish in there that can pick on the others. I'll see how well they grow bigger together but for the tank size I'm happy to account for a few losses if they happen.

I've got Saulosi, Acei, Hongi, Pheno Tanzania, a big female Azureus, two lion heads, some Kribensis, a huge male peppermint bn, a medium female normal bn and two small yabbies and they all get along great. I do have heaps of caves and structure for them to retreat to if they need to but they seem happiest all just hanging out together.

nice list i agree also i guess its something you need to watch and act on if any issues but most of the time they pretty much ignore each other. was in a uk cichlid forum and they even got a name for us there mixers and its pretty much shunned upon and yet when they tell beginners they should buy only species tanks ie mbuna in one haps in another and yet didnt also explain that some of those species shouldnt be mixed found there thought pattern very confusing but they aint changing.
