Albino Cyrtocara Moorii (white Dolphins)

Since i shut my last tank down over 12 months ago i have moved house. i finally found some time to set a standard 4ft tank up until i get around to starting my 8x2x2 project.

I have been searching for albino haps for some time and came across some albino Cyrtocara Moorii. They are around 8cm. They are not eating as aggressively as the normal moorii which i found interesting. Here are a few snaps i took today. i know a white fish with red eyes is not everyones cup of tea but i really like them. The males have quite a strong blue iridescent sheen where as the female are more a silver white.

Will be interesting to watch as they develop... Nice fish you have mate.

I agree the face is not right & usually young moorii still have pretty blunt face.

But I'm here to admire not to pick apart :)

Apparently they were imported by someone from north queensland and they have bred big numbers of them and are starting putting them through the wholesalers. i got these guys through a LFS. i dare say they would be the same bloodline as the ones Andrew had in his shop.

i have also heard that there is albino nimbochromis polystigma becoming available shortly.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a reputable breeder 10 years ago about the suspicions they had on a few of the albino variants kicking around. The general consensus were that most had a question mark on them.

Take the albino Nimbochromis polystigma. I cant find a single instance of an occurrence on a google image search (though I didn't tip it upside down) (and aside from the ones that appeared in QLD).

Apparently alot of these fish are cross bred up in asia and line bred back for shape.

Not judging your fish...just sayin'

I've bred albino Dimidiochromis compressiceps and I gotta admit I looked at every fish with that niggling thought in the back of my head.

I look forward to seeing your progress though :)

Moori have always been one of my favourite fish of all time, I think a big displaying albino male would look awesome.

I'll be honest, when I first looked at the pics. I wasn't and am still not convinced they are pure moori. The third pic down - the mouth just doesn't look right to me.

But, I have been wrong before. Be very interested to see these fish develop.

Albino poly in Queensland are pure and naturally genetically occurred in Queensland.

As for albino dimi comp, they are to legit, I've pumped out thousands of them over east and few local here,,, every single fish were in true form.

There were two alb dimi comp breeders here in Perth that were spitting out funny looking ones,, as if peacock was in there and making them look more kind of strigatus like.

Then there were marble dimi comps,,, lol,, straight out dimi comp cross marble peacock,,, the crap thing was they were being passed of as actual marble dimi comps.

I don't support hybrids but it becomes very interesting and there's no harm if it's labeled as a cross or a designer slang name.

Something I've always wanted to cross to give me a fix on intriguement,,, is a Tanzanian phenochilus with a A grade marble peacock.

I'd call them "Marbled Galaxies" lol. No one can't say the inlay of spangling in both mixed would would be incredible should a good 50/50 occur in gene sharing,,,,,,,, Definetely get the old fella standing up. :)

I also remember albino strigatus that looked like peacock/zebra/strigatus.

I dunno for me I dont have too many issues if they seperate from legit strains. These things just pop up alot of the time and its difficult to source backgrounds of the fish.

Do you know who the breeder was in QLD that bred the nimbo's, Buccal?

After I saw link talk talk about them after he traveled to Queensland,,, I called that shop immediately to ask them to ship to me.

Lol, it so happened that the bloke that answered the phone use to live in Perth and worked at exotic tropicals in Wangara Perth (now shut down).

He is a definete fish pro, and knows the breeder and says definite legit.

Proper alb dimi comps and alb red cheek tropheops do very well for sales compared to most other albinos,, and I'm sure the polys would follow as the same.

They said they are so busy these days they don't ship anymore, but he said he would see what he can organise and call back,,, but he never called back unfortunately so I left it alone.

That's them Chris. Once i get my 8x2 going i was to get a few of these polys to put in with the moorii.

i have also seen albino red empress starting to get around. does anyone know the history of those? did they occur naturally here?

i am going to persist with these guys and see what they turn out like as adults. if im not 100% convinced they are pure they will stay as display fish.
