wet n dry trickle filter

Hey guys,

Just wanna grab some opinions with regards to wet and dry trickle filters. I'm currently using one to house a 5ft tank. At the moment I have it structured as from the spinning arm down to filter wool, through a thick black sponge and passing around 4kgs of bio balls which remains dry.

I'm thinking of replacing a portion of bio balls into matrix or marine pure balls however I'm not sure if it would work best if either the matrix or pure balls being fully submerged or left dry?

I heard that both stuff works wonders reducing nitrates which I'm trying to aim at..

Cheers

Edwin

you need to pre filter before it goes over the bio balls so they don't clog up

so unless there is something like filter wool around the pipe in the weir

or you are using a filter sock on the drain pipe you will need to have the

filter mat over the bio balls and if you have a sponge use it submerged

before the matrix on end like a partition is good so it acts like a
