bfra
I have 2 and cannot remember what they are. They were bought quite small a few years ago.
malawi sand diver
Hi, looks like a female sciaenochromis fryeri a.k.a electric blue
Chuckmeister
Fish ID...you always stick your neck out trying to ID fish lolI had a look at this last night and thought maybe electric blue..then I had a close look at the head...its a seriously ugly head if its a blue. Also normally the vertical bars stick out quite heavily on blues. Even a young dominent male will show bars. For me its a display fish unless someone else can provide some better idea. Or everyone insists its a blue Have you a better pic...that one is not the best and a little small for my old eyes
bfra
Thanks, I'll try get a better Pic. I had to shrink it a lot to be able to submit it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't sold as an electric blue as i have a beautiful male and wouldn't have bought in any competition for him.
5uka
Similar to a electric blue. But the head and dark colour is confusing. Maybe a hybrid of some kind?

Chuckmeister
It could be a female Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus. The dip on the nose is a bit annoying but might just be the fish.Male Fusco's are a little thicker in the body but the female may be thinner.Having said that its likely to be hybrid as well.Really at the end of the day if you are not certain then you cant really do anything with the fish other than spoil it in your tank. Link2Hell
seeing as its female = 3 yrs and no colouryou could feed it White Crane as this can bring male colour out in femaleswhen you originally bought it was it coloured and in an assorted African tank ?agree with Chuck that the head seems different
Ged
I think Chuck is on the right track but it still doesn't quite look right. Brad can you post a photo of the other fish?
bfra
Here's three more pictures of the two of them. I bought them quite small and initially thought that they just hadnt coloured up due to the size of some of the other fish. They are now similar in size and don't get hassled by anyone in the tank, so guessing they were females all along.
Ged
Brad they still have me confused. Do the vertical lines that they appear to have become more pronounced? How big are they?
bfra
Occasionally their vertical lines darken but usually when one of them wants to show dominance in the tank. They don't show any colour at any point though. Both are about 15cm
