Breeding size / age for frontosa?

I've been breeding frontosa (Burundi) for 5 years.

I bought a breeding colony and have added at least 3year old fish to it to keep the colony growing and strong etc.

I've always been told that frontosa needed to be adult size to breed and at least 3 years old if not 4.

I have been growing 3 young Burundi that were my fry born 2 years ago. My plan was to put them back through my colony once they were adult sized and a bit older.

I don't pay much attention to these fish as they are just growing out in a display inside.

Today i noticed the female had a mouthful, she is no older than 2 years and no bigger than 13cm, the male is only 15cm.

I kept these fish for their excellent quality and colour as I want to put them back through the colony.

I should have left them alone but i spent too long watching them and she spat or ate the eggs.?

So the question is, how yound and small have people had Frontosa breed?

Cheers Couchy
