Rocks: How many (004)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys bigsmile.gif

Just want to know on how many kilos of rocks can be placed in a standard 4ft. I'm using large sandstone rocks that weighs around 6 to 10 kilos..maybe abit more and using sand for my substrate.

Any info will be much appreciated

i think it all depends on the stand. i have packed my standard 4 footer to the top with sandstone with no probs - using a soloid stand. also make sure you place styrofoam under the larger rocks.

Hi cirulis,

you displace the same volume of water everytime you put a rock in the tank.....if you know what i mean. So its really not that much heavier

Yes...and no....

Yes, you displace the same volume of water for the same sized rock.....but it can be a lot heavier than the weight of the water. For example, a bucket of garnet sand is considerably heavier than a bucket of lime sand....yet they both displace the same amount of water.

Depending upon the mineral composition of the rock, the weight will vary....sometimes considerably.
