Rocks: Sandstone (001)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

quick Q

are there any rocks that would be bad for a tank? The rocks that i have are nice n flat but smell a bit like clay. They are hard and dont make the water go cloudy. Could they be bad for my fish? I know the answer is probably no, but just wanna be sure.

Put them in a big pot and boil them. see if that gets rid of the smell.

Where were they before you had them? and do you know what type of rock they are? i.e. sandstone e.t.c.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I dont know what type of rocks they but they are orangy brown and quite flat. I supsect slate/sandstone or maybe a combination of the two? blink.gif but i washed most of the dirt off under a tap.

They are originally from poxboy's farm/property in the country. I doubt they'd be contaminated with any unnatural chemicals etc.

if your unsure you have 2 options

1. build a nice rockery in your garden.

2. soak the rocks in a plastic container for 2 weeks, if after this time the water smells ok you can use the rocks, however if you stress easily, or have a breeding colony of royal panaques id go to option 1.
