Floating substance in sump

Hi just wondering if anybody has had this at all. It is basically a white floating substance in my sump filter. Looks like a bacteria of some sort.

Just wondering if anybody has experienced this before. I'm just going to break down the sump and give it a good clean/ flush but would like to know what it is.

TIA

Pat

is it a marine or fresh water setup?

Marine setup it could be a protein build up, increase in the movement of surface water can reduce this, as well as a protein skimmer

Fresh water it could an excess of mineral building up.

Hard to say... what's your water change regime? what's stocked in the tank? how bigs the setup etc

As for adding pics from your phone, i'm not sure sorry. Does this sitre worlk with tappa talk?

found this online, if it's a frwsh water tank

"That's calcium precipitate. Calcium bonds up with different things in the water and you get calcium "salt" chains that look like a milky film. Clean it off with a rag and you'll be fine."

Thanks for your help chuckmeister/ mattzilla.

Tank is 8x2.5x2.5 with a 6x20x20 sump. Sump has matrix and mini k1( still seeding). I have some exotics in the tank.

Sounds like you are spot on with the calcium precipitate as it is very milky like when taken out. Kind of like a curd.

Yeah I'll give the sump a good clean and see how I go.

Thanks again!
