Hi, I'm very new to the world of fish. I have a 200litre tank but I'm not sure what combination of cichlids to purchase nor am I sure of how to set my tank up to suit them. Can someone please give me some accurate information?

If going with African I'd prob go mbuna as peacocks and haps can get big fast

However before you do anything you should set the tank up with proper filtration I normally go between 5 to 10 times your volume then scape it and let it cycle for bout 2 to 4 weeks testing every week to check parameters , you need your nitrogen cycle to be in full swing before adding fish hope that helps

I have had the tank up and running for a month or so , water has been tested and I've been told it's suitable- testing kit and pet shop. I have a fluva 206 and an air pump. Not sure how many rocks I should have in there or what the layout should be like. I've had 2 sucker fish in there as a start. I love electric yellows and would love to have a tank full or a combination of them and another suitable species of cichlid.

A colony of rusties always looks good with yellows.

Also a few afra's gives a nice contrast.

Can you just have yellows in a tank? If so, how many in a 200l tank? If it's a mix of yellows and rustys, how many would fit comfortably? Any other species ok with yellows besides rustys?

by 200 lt I'm guessing it's a 122 cm long

yes you can keep just Yellows as a species tank

look at 5-10 to start with don't consider size of the fish

to tank space if they are still juveniles as they will grow into

the tank space and grow the group to 20 they will breed and

increase in number ..... you will need more tanks then ;)

also good combo with Yellows is Maingano (Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos)

For rocks & caves it's up to you.

I like to have as many as I can across the back & leave the front as a swimming area.

A cheap option is terracotta pots you can cut them with a angle grinder to make caves.

Other fish Pindani, Electric Blues, White lip mdoka so many options.
