beautiful fish the steatocranus casuarius and the tinanti.ive kept both in the past and had given my pair to a family member but ill soon get em back one day.although its a shame you rarely see them in the lfs but they do come and go not really a cichlid that stays unfortunately.id love to see the irvineii and gibbicep of this species make its way here but like many others its not importable.

Its an easy to breed cave spawner and patience is a must

The female will also develop a small cranial hump but not as prominent as the males.i love the long finnage ( the dorsil and anal fins) makes the fish look slender at times my male had a dorsil fin go past the tail by approx 2-3cm.

they will accept just about anything you feed them.live brine is a must if you want to get them going.few rocks are needed.mine spawned in a shell had approx 200 eggs for their first spawn then it grew and grew each time they laid.

there were some of both tinanti and lionheads fs at Labyrinth very short time ago.i have also seen them at trans aquarium in Canley heights.nice big healthy males but at the 5-7cm range with large cranial humps.

They were a popular addition to a tank but seems to be less popular now. Full of character so there will always be those dedicated to keeping them. Have you got any photos of your fish James?

I want to say L2H has a pair of S. tinanti.

I've only got 1 now (other I can't find anymore, strange...) and it's a male he is a champ too, sits on a rock and just chases everyone else away, I'll try and get some photos tomorrow or the next day of him and upload them, I can't figure how to upload them onto this thread but.
