Heating an IBC grow out tank

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of setting up an IBC grow out tank with 4 separate compartments for 4 ages or species with water flowing from one compartment to the other around all 4 and then pumped up to an overhead trickle filter and falling back to the first quadrant.

I'm looking for some advice or past experience with hearing such a beast! It will be out in the shed, so won't have the protection of our majorly insulated house. I will insulate the IBC with foam if need be.

I have seen people heating them with an inline hot water system element on a thermostat, but that seems costly and excessive. Do you think a couple of 300W stick heaters would do, or do you have any better ideas or any advice?

Thanks for your help!

Mark

Yep, your already on it.

I insulate with 30mm polystyrene.

Acrylic ceiling glue to glue the corners and straight to the steel cage,,,,,, packing tape to tape it together till glue goes off.

Polystyrene for the lid also, but cut a small window in it, and glue clear twin wall polycarbonate, so you can put a small fluro light hood over on a timer.

1 x 300w jäger heater definitely does the job.
