Advice needed : cantilevered welded stand for 3mx.75mx.75m aqm

Hi.... am after some advice from anyone who has experience with welded stands for big tanks.

Has anyone attempted a stand for a big tank , 3m x .75m x .75m where part of the tank will be cantilevered out?

I would like to have 1m cantilevered out and 2m not. Deflection of the steel would appear to be the main issue as I cannot afford this to flex.

The welder that I am planning to use is reluctant to take this on without an engineers report which I have been told will set me back $700 , I would rather spend this money on thicker steel.

Any advice is appreciated on this. The tank will be a room divider and I want something a bit different to the usual style of stands...

thanks, Tim

Try hall metal works. They are good guys and will do almost anything for cash. They might not be the cheapest around but are good. Also i am sure Alex's double 6x2 rack won't have an engineers certificate. Alex is to dodgy for that lol.

no i got my cousin to fix me up.... dont remind me about the foam...

Tim if you are worried come have a look an my double 6x2 its as solid as and didnt flex at all that was made with 50x75mm 5 or 6mm steel. im no engineer but my guess is that if you used the 50x75 5mm steel as your two outer bearers and have a 3rd or 4th beam in the centre and the over hangs "gusseted"; welded up and braced accordingly your only problem might be with the over hang causing instability and helping the tank "teater" which can be fixed by bolting it to the floor......

a tool like this http://www.xcalcs.com/cgi-bin/tutti/x3calcs.cgi?d=i_0_1_5_1&l=en or http://civilengineer.webinfolist.com/mech/cbmcalcur.php might set you mind at ease
