FRY - High Nitrites - Water Changes ?

Hi guys,

I have about a dozen M.Estherae fry in a grow out tank.

Water check last night and the Nitrites were quite high (levels are normally good).

I did an immediate water change....How often can I keep doing them (daily?)

The fry are about 1.2-2cm and seem fine at the moment.

Cheers

Nath

This is just off the top of my head

But - If you are going to be doing more than two 20% changes per week, i would make sure that the water was aged prior to changes, same temp, same ph, buffered, salts added, etc.

Otherwise you might start shocking the fish and doing more harm than good. Keeping nitrates down in a fry tank is a good idea!

SO its nitrItes? If you have nitrite issues, then your filter on this fry tank is not coping with the bioload (not cycled properly) Water changes will help short term, but you need to fix your filter issues.

If it is nitrate, then water changes more often are better.

I do 80-90% water changes on my fry grow out tanks, but I use pre-conditioned water to replace what is taken out. I have never had an issue, even with fish that are still attached to eggs.
