Fish Pond

Hi All

I have just finshed making my pond it is 700lt pond...and i am thinking of going down to hazelwood in Melbourne and getting a $hit load of convicts an putting them in there...How do ya think it will go the pond get a alittle bit of sun aswell..?

any help would be great.

I will only have a water Fountain on the pond.

I'd recomend a fare few plants then.

Can the fountain pump be fitted with a pre filter ?

Both those would help alot IMO.

You could wrap some coarse filter floss (or dacron-type stuff from the habadashery shop) around the intake to clean it up a little.

Or get a battery box (the black PVC ones used in some cars - about $8 at cheap car part shops), cut some holes in it and line it with filtration material (the harder foam black / grey is better) and pop the pump in there, with a little hole in the lid for the output. This is just a low cost way of copying the same sort of thing from the garden pond shops and certain major hardware chains' water feature sections.

Low cost, reasonable mechanical and biological filtration.

LOTS of plants help too as the local bird life (and cats) will be in a hurry for a free feed. Plenty of cover...
