Dark Morelia
Not I ! I have my lights on a timer, and I stuck an internal filter on it too, it was too noisy when trying to sleep
CThompson
If air is needed in daylight hours then it is needed in the dark also. If the tank is not heavily stocked and it is just an extra, then it maybe okay to turn it off at night. Try turning it off during the day and take notice of how fast the fish are breathing. If their gill movement increases, then the air pump is needed. A heavily planted tank would be different as at night the plants respire as the fish do putting a bigger need to have O2 in the tank. It is normal to have the air pump/s on all the time, so if there is no great issue leaving it on, then "if it aint broke don't fix it".
PeteFromTassie
^^^ Good posting, very thorough mate! I wouldn't be turning my filters/air pumps off ever, I don't think it's really advisable. Cheers, Pete.
