    Tangs

@brucem not a problem at all. Thanks. I'd love more tangs but the days of going to buy the ones I want is just impossible up here. I'm still sad I sold all my foai variants a few years back on the birth of my first child. Never expected it to be so hard to find some again. @MattG_Sydney will do if I had a video of the garage then the words nice clean setup would not be used That's one of my tanks in the house, so the boss/wife makes sure I keep it pretty clean. I don't think she's ever forgiven me for getting rid of the 6 foot planted discus tank for another tang tank! Good to hear from you. Cheers, Jason

    Tangs

@Blue yonder I'm at North Lakes in QLD. Wasn't really posting to sell fry.... was more to show Bruce that particular tank video. I've had a lot of interest from NSW but unfortunately I don't have the time to ship currently with work commitments. Sorry. Cheers, Jason

    Tangs

@brucem quick video of my chituta black chins. First video is main colony (tank also contains leptosoma kitumba and flavippinis lyamembe). Second video is one tank of my fry (which are sub adults) and furcifer resha fry (not really fry anymore as they've started breeding in this growout tank). Cheers, Jason IMG_4433.MOV IMG_4432.MOV
  4. Hi Matt, I found the same with my lamprologus speciosus. They became very aggressive towards the younger fry and would pick them off one by one to protect the new batch. I ended up removing the fry as soon as I could catch them or trap the parents away from the shell and remove the whole shell. Multi's/Similis can co- exist as one big group. Maybe the ornatipinnis can't. I'd agree with Bruce! Cheers, Jason
  5. I've got the following Tangs: Enantiopus Melanogenys Chituta Black Chin Neolamprologus Similis Cyathopharynx Furcifer Resha Altolamprologus Calvus Chaitika Cyprichromis Microlepidotus Sibwesa Cyprichromis Leptosoma Kitumba Xenotilapia Flavipinnis Lyamembe Eretmodus Cyanostictus Kapampa Have for sale all except calvus, gobies and micro's for anyone in the south east Qld area. Cheers, Jason
  6. I'm in a very similar boat up in QLD. I scaled back in 2016 with the arrival of my first child. I've been only Tangs for 30+ years now. Sad thing is the fish that I want I just can't get anymore I had numerous variants of Cyathopharynx Foai, Xenotilapia, Cyprichromis and Eretmodus to name just a few. I've been searching for foai for 2-3 years now and still don't have any!!
  7. @Skippy That's an awesome find. Thanks for posting that!

    Filter size

Hi @stevo1957, As a general rule of thumb, I always try and size any canister filter having a flow rate of around 4 to 5 times the tank volume. In this instance the 207 would be a work, however I'd agree with @MattG_Sydney and go the 307. For the slight extra cost you are getting a much bigger filter volume (7.3L compared to 5.3L). A 307 on that size tank could go months without needing a clean. Cheers, Jason
  9. Hi Adam, I'm not sure if there is a fool proof plan to encourage breeding activity. All I can pass on is things that have worked for me in the past. I find a lot of my Tangs respond to water changes. During the winter months I have my Tang tanks on 25 degrees. Every second or third water change I fill with warmer water to bring the temperature up to 27 degrees. This tends to get the males into fighting for dominance and therefore sometimes leads to a breeding increase. Shellies however don't seem to respond as well as other Tangs to the above. I've had some colonies just continually produce fry and others not as much. I like the idea of moving around shells and decor to try and stimulate a bit of activity in the tank. I like the idea of you feeding live baby brine. All my tangs get a high quality pellet, spilurina flake and 3-4 feeds of a mixture of frozen foods (daphnia, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp) weekly. I find feeding and having good condition on the fish a very important factor in breeding success. Best of luck. Cheers, Jason
  10. I have xenotilapia flavipinnis lyamembe in with my similis. As long as you setup your tank correctly. Give both fish space to inhabit. I have the about 50 shells that take up about 1 foot of a 4 foot thank for the similis. Rest of the tank is sand with a few rocks to break up the open sand and give room for separate males to occupy. The xeno's never go into the similis area and vice versa. Cheers, Jason
  11. @Skippy I've heard of a couple of people up in Qld having meleagris recently. I purchased 10 in 2016 and eventually sold my colony of about 40 in 2019 locally. I know the guy sold some locally up here so I'm guessing the ones floating around could be from this original colony.
  12. Hi Matt, Closing in on 40 years of keeping Tangs and I've always wanted a colony of Lamprologus Callipterus. Never seen them for sale. Assuming someone would have managed to source some at some stage. @adamgatt good call on the signatus also. Guessing it would be pushing 10 years since I've seen any of those advertised. Cheers, Jason
  13. Now I know why when I visited the 12 apostles last time there was only 8. 1 of those 4 that went missing is the middle rock in Matt's tank
  14. Hi Matt, As @Skippy said most rocks are pretty much inert. Depending on how dirty the rocks are I just give them a good rinse under the tap. Worst case if there is some mud/dirt after the tap rinse still on them I use an old scrubbing brush and give them a extra clean with that. I've heard of people even boiling them for a few minutes but I've never gone to that extreme! That's perfect that your local is one of the biggest in NSW. Be interested to find out what sort of range they have. You might find some good ones. Cheers, Jason
  15. I guess this is probably an unpopular opinion...... I don't really see any benefit (unless you want a great display tank which is probably where you are heading Matt) in spending heaps of money on rocks. I'd much rather spend the money on the actual fish! Since the late 80's when I setup a frontosa tank and my love of Tangs started my first source of rocks for tanks has always been the local landscape supplier. Usually find a bit of a variety for a great price. Cheers, Jason
