  1. Hi Matt, was wondering if you still are breeding any Geophagus species? Please txt me if you can help? Cheers Tony

  2. looking good, well done on breeding them. do you have texas holey rock? doesn't that harden the water and raise PH? i may be wrong also, why no sand or fine gravel? they are earth eaters after all and it's a big part of their natural behaviour, including when breeding. I'm not having a go at you... just curious. Obviously they are happy because they are breeding but i have never kept geos without at least a fine later of sand for them to sift. Your water change regime sounds perfect to me. very similar to what i did with geos. keep up the good work, i love seeing leucos being bred. matt
  3. k1 is awesome, just a little noisier than some other medias because of the water agitaion required for it to move around
  4. i have been using it for years, most of my sump is full of it now, have used in canister filters hang on filters etc i think a 50 ltr bag cost about $50 so it's soooo economical needs a very good wash when first used and will float until water logged, which doesn't take long. i put it into large laundry mesh bags so it doesn't float away through sump and makes it easy to remove and rinse
  5. if its a wet sump (submerged media) you could use hydroton. its a hydroponics growing meadia that works great. Cheap as chips too so you can fill the sump to the brim
  6. good to see some old geo faces on this thread. great photos ronny! i still have some orange heads and leucos. really miss my old geos over the years i have had most of what's beren talked about in this thread. nevere seen REAL jurupari in oz. not many REAL tapajos either cheers
  7. These vids are of my most recent spawn. I took them last night with my little point and shoot camera so they are very poor quality... sorry In all 3 vids the Male is holding the fry and letting them swim around until he sees me coming. The fry have been free swimming for 10 days your comments are welcomed. also, for those people that have been asking, i'll have juvies at 3-4cm available in about 2 weeks. keep an eye on the classifieds thanks matt
  8. thanks Panasonic Lumix FZ18 GREAT little camera glad your wife liked the vids
  9. Thanks guys, i'll let you know when they are ready to go. Will be about 3 months if all goes well here are some updated vids i took today. I've managed to snatch about 3/4 of the fry but these last few are proving very difficult to net. the parents have figured me out and even with a running surprise attack i only manage to get 1 or 2 at best each time. they are excellent parents both sharing the role when mouth brooding and very protective of their fry cheers matt
  10. cool after this spawn i'll give them their own tank and see what pairs up with the leftovers cheers
  11. Here is the quick video of them spawning. My apologies for the low quality i was only using my little point-and-shoot camera. thanks
  12. Craig, they would both be around the 6-7" mark tha male is lsightly bigger than the female
  13. My Leucos spawned tonight for the first time (WOOOT) It almost didn't happen really but by chance it did. I have had 8 adult leucos all sharing a 4x18x18 and 2 of them have paired up and over the last few days showed signs of wanting to spawn. i thought they still had a few days before spawning but just in case i gave their tank a clean today and removed a huge piece of planted driftwood so i could put a divider in for the pair to have some privacy. Well that sounds easier than it was! i knew which one the female was because her tube was down a fair bit so i had her sorted. next job was trying to find the exact male she was paired with because a few males where bidding for her attention. This meant 3 males had tubes slightly down. I picked the one i thought it was.... but i was wrong! after a couple of hours and to my surprise the female started laying but the male wasn't interested. i looked on the other side of the divider and one particular male's tube was way down so i did the quick switch-aroony and swapped the males. The whole time the female was still laying. luckily the new male went straight to work so fingers crossed it is a successful spawn. Here is the female spawning by herself: and then with the right male: Here are some of the other adult leucos... just random shots I took a quick video of them spawning... just waiting for YouTube to clear it. i'll post it then. fingers crossed they get it right! Cheers Matt
