The QT tank is bigger than what most people would use, but I had it from one of my FW set ups and the tank was pretty much brand new. QT is 4'x2.5'x1.5' approx' 400L/100Gal - and will be filters by an Aqua One Nautilus 2700. I also like the idea of being able to quarantine decent amounts of fish at a time. The rock in the display is Carib Sea Life Rock, a combination of 'shelf' and 'shapes'. Ordered online to try it out and see if I'd use it on the display.

	Hi folks,

Here is a pic of my planted/community tank.

The fish I’ve got in there are:

Lionhead cichlids, Rainbowfish, Congo Tetras, Angels, Red Top Electric Blue Rams, Peppermint and Common BN, Gold Spot Plecos, One large Featherfin Cat, a few Electric Blue males, Gold sucking cats, One large Glass cat, Two Gourami (Pearl and Blue Spot) and about 100 common BN fry in a saver.

I have no problems with aggression or fighting as all the fish just seem to get along really well.

This pic is a few months old and after using some LCA all in one fertilisers for a few weeks all the plants now are almost triple in size. Currently I’ve stopped the ferts and have reduced light to only one light (usually 3) and the photoperiod to only 4 hours a day as I’m treating for a massive black beard algae outbreak. I’ll get a current pic up soon

Well after quite a long time away from the fish side of the industry, its time to set up a couple of little systems to play with, Sarah likes the Wild Bettas, and is starting to accumulate a few different species, and we are now looking at some Killie Fish, Sarah has just ordered 2 species that arrive next week. For me, I will be setting up 2 tanks for some Comps, and the half a system with Sarah with some L's and cories and whatever else floats my boat.

Sarahs system will comprise of 2x 3x18x12 tanks on the bottom, they will be fry grow out tanks, the next 2 levels will be 16 of our custom made acrylic tanks 30x20x20, purely for Sarah's Betta addiction.

Then we pick up the 12 tank system off Tim tomorrow, they are 3ftx20x12 I will custom split some of these tanks, both systems will run off custom built sumps.

Looking forward to getting these going.........................

	peace out

Toxotes microlepis archer fish. Being a true freshwater not brackish species, do many lfs etc know the types they are getting when they get them in? The reason i ask is because id love to put some in with some geophagus but dont want the brackish characteristics. I had 2 archer fish years ago no idea what genes and i had them in with community fish and they were by far my favourite but i gave them away because they out grew my tank at the time. Any suggestions if they are compatible with geos and possibly places to buy these fish would be appreciated

	Hi folks,

Finally after a few attempts I have managed to keep a few colonies of Shrimp alive and to get them to breed for me! I currently have Glass, Red Cherry and Fire reds all living happily together in a small tank.

Is anyone else on here into these little fellas? I'm about to try my hand at some Macro Jardini (Long Arm Shrimp) and would like to know if anyone else here has tried them?

	Cheers,

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum. I found out about the forum by one of the members here who has just taken over my local aquarium shop. I don’t keep cichlids; it’s not that I don’t want to its just I have never tried to. As the name suggest I keep mainly Tetras and livebearers, there are over 700 known species of tetras from glowlight tetra to the pacu tetra so there is plenty of scope of variety

I bought a 2nd hand Aqua One ( Aqua Style 620T) fish tank. It was missing a lot of parts including the motor but I have replaced everything. I find that the tank doesn’t seem to be clean so I suspect that the filter isn’t cleaning the tank properly, I want to get a canister filter to replace the trickle system.

Edit:

The reason I wanted the canister filter is that the trickle filter doesn't clean the tank, as I said early.

Instead of a canister filter; would a 2nd power head filter be the way to go? The tank is 3 foot and 130 litres.
Could it generate enough current for the detritus to be picked up in the flow and be sucked into the trickle filter?

The downside to this is if the power head was too powerful the fish would be swimming for their very lives.

Thought I'd keep a log here of my journey from buying second hand tanks to some sort of end result. May be death of 1000 plants or may work out ok.

I recently purchased 2 tanks on a tier. One is 5x2x2 and the planted tank I'm going to try is a 5x2x18. Both tanks were pretty filthly and my first post is just a clean up vid. Other than comments, most of it is just going to be youtube shots. As I progress I'll likely progress into some commentary especially as I learn more.

If you have a wife or a girlfriend you'd better hide them from the first vid as there is a whole lotta man in it

And the theme song is dedicated to Link

Well Sarah and I just got back from Japan, loved it, spent alot of time eating and checking out the local culture, and sussing out a tonne of aquariums and pet shops

Sarah came back with about 40 Odd Kg of Iwagumi rocks for her planted tank fetish, and a heap of equipment, all aquascape based, some of the stores were superb, stock and people

Hi all my name is brad and ive just started up a new tank after about 3 years of not owning a tank i use to have a few cichlids but unfortunately i never got into it as much as i would have liked .. so ive had this new tank running for about 4 weeks while it cycled and used some quick start in the tank to help speed things up abit .. i finally got my tank stable and added some lake Malawi mbunas (love the character of these fish). Now ive got just a standard 3ft tank with a canister filter that turns over 1200L an hour. Ive put in 3 hongi, 3 red empress, 5 yellow labs, 4 striped obliques, and was thinking of adding 4 yellow tailed acei once i see if it will handle them (probably wont). Had the fish in the tank 4 days in total and just done a mild water change of 40L so probably 30% water change. One question with all of this, i added some quick start and water agent to the fresh water i put in, im worried about doing big water changes straight up because im a little unsure if my tank is stable enough or if im doing the right thing .. i raked and cleaned the gravel as well amazing how much they have dropped in 4 days .. just looking for a few pointers to keep everything spot on cheers!!

As the title says has anyone kept either of these with cichlids? I'm setting up a 2 foot tank (I know it isn't big) and I would like to know if they would be compatible and what you fed them

Cheers,

Jack

I recently bought some halfbeaks on impulse as they are such beautiful little fish from Labyrinth Aquarium (can not recommend them there highly enough for service, great pricing and Andrews extensive knowledge) and I'm wondering if anyone here has had success in breeding them in a species specific tank?

I'd love to breed them as I think they would be a great little addition to almost any smaller species community tank. They look great, and with their mouth being at the top of their heads to eat food off the surface is awesome to watch!

I think they would also sell quite well in most LFS' as they are rare to find and very hardy and totally out of the ordinary and well suited to beginner keepers and the smaller tanks.

My little guys absolutely smash the crushed up pellets and are even tame enough that they come and nibble my fingers!

So yeah, I'd love to hear from any other keepers of this highly underrated fish.

Cheers,

Alan.
