Today though, Fluval are much improved and are probably of equal quality and ease of use to Eheim.

I am like you Slips, have had a number of cheap canisters but found them poor quality and prone to failures, there are gems in the cheap crowd but knowing which are good is the problem.

NSWCS Illawarra auction 8/2/2020 MOVED

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62442-nswcs-illawarra-auction-822020-moved/?do=findComment&comment=350044

Urgent Notice - Change of Venue

	sorry about the long read...

I have a 4ft tank with bolivian rams, Tetras, a few platys and a trio of L333 cats.

About 6 weeks back the rams started occasional flashing so i treated the tank with rapid whitespot remedy and raising the temp and followed up with a repeat treatment. All seemed going well until 3 weeks ago i started to notice white stringy poo from a few fish and also becoming quite lethargic. On advice from the LFS i treated the tank with praziquantel for 2 weeks but no change. Next trip to LFS I picked up some dimetridazole which i have mixed into a batch of food and started feeding but my issue is the L333 cats dont feed at the same time and leaving food in tank overnight I assume ineffective as the meds would dissolve from the pellets so they would still carry the issue to spread again. Also one of the fish now wont eat. Any advice?

Tank ph 7, nitrate is about 10ppm.

Help finding Shrimp Breeders - Penrith Area

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62429-help-finding-shrimp-breeders-penrith-area/?do=findComment&comment=350014

Hi All,

How should I best deal with this?

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62421-is-this-rhizoclonium-algae-how-should-i-best-deal-with-this/?do=findComment&comment=349995

See pictures. This is in an established but newly planted 5g aquarium. Stocked with guppies and cherry shrimp and various plants. The plants and driftwood are new additions. No other algae present in the tank after having planted 3 weeks ago. Normal weekly maintenance, daily ferts, 6hrs lighting per day, NO CO2. The algae growth started within the first week and has grown reasonably slowly but I’d like to remove or defeat it. I’m pretty sure it’s not BBA. It’s only growing on the driftwood. Very interesting.

On a side note do you leave your shrimp outside all year round? From what I briefly read about cherry shrimp a while back I thought they were very delicate with temperature? Is that not really the case?

I couldn’t help myself on the weekend and I picked up some apistogramma pairs for the tanks. I’m enjoying observing them, might need to make room for another tank or 2 for some more. 😎

Leaf litter for dwarf americans

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62419-leaf-litter-for-dwarf-americans/?do=findComment&comment=349993

I have cherry shrimp outside and the gun leaves fall in and they are all doing really well still. Skippy, I thought the same thing as you re eucalyptus oil in gum leaves which is why I posed the question. I actually put some in a tank for 2 days before posting and put the canaries (guppies) in to see if it would effect them but it didn't. I put them in for water parameters, but also because I like the effect it has on the breaking up the lighting in the tank when they are scattered floating on top. They sunk after 24 or so hours though.

Leaf litter for dwarf americans

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62419-leaf-litter-for-dwarf-americans/?do=findComment&comment=349991

I'm no expert but I would expect eucalyptus leaves to leach a lot of oil I'm not sure what effect that would have on the water's chemistry

Leaf litter for dwarf americans

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62419-leaf-litter-for-dwarf-americans/?do=findComment&comment=349990

I was just about to make a post asking this question. Was also looking at almond leaves but due to how much they cost might look at getting an almond tree. Banana leaves is a good idea but might be too big.

In regards to other leaves such as eucalyptus will they be ok if they are old / dried?

Leaf litter for dwarf americans

http://www.aceforums.com.au/topic/62419-leaf-litter-for-dwarf-americans/?do=findComment&comment=349989

you could use Beech or Oak also but wrong time of year to go looking for them

I have reset a few of my tang tanks as I want to venture into dwarf americans. 😎

I am setting up 3 american tanks and plan on getting rams and apistos. I want to add some leaf litter for water parameters and also decoration, however, I am looking for something more economical than buying almond leaves.

Does anyone know if using gumtree leaves and bark will have a negative impact on water quality?
